Just wanted to share my story of how I had my design/idea from a smaller company ripped off to a million dollar company, In hopes this would help ya be more cautious of your work and credibility.

In 2017 after graduating high school, my partner and I started an ecommerce brand called Orange Juice The Brand (@/orangejuicethebrand). Fast forward to last year around April, I read into Casetify and wanted to learn more about the founder Wesley Ng. So I followed him on instagram (from my personal @/mollyyjiang) and liked a few posts of his, no big deal. A few hours later he followed back and liked a few photos back. Like anyone I freaked out, seeing someone you idolized recognize you, felt like a big deal in the moment tbh ahah. I then decided to DM him and asked to speak to him and had a few questions. He responded and we agreed to a phone call, tried to schedule a time but eventually he just stopped responding to me. Though throughout the later days/weeks he avidly watched my stories and such.

A month later around May of last year I started designing phone cases that centralized representation and showcased the pride of your city. I was inspired by travel and passport stamps/luggage tags, so i thought they why not put it on a case and show the world. Being naive I never considered the possibility of an idea being copied or stolen. So we then released our PASSPORT SERIES on June 18th of last year. Being excited of my designs I then posted it on my personal story the same day. I noticed Wesley watched my story. The only thought I had was “Hey!, this guy is still watching my stuff, I guess my life is not that lame after all”. Thinking nothing bad of anything.

Two months later Casetify on August 22nd released their Pangram Pangram x Casetify collection they have a design called the “Pangram Custom” that many certain similarities to our initial designs. My heart dropped as I first saw their release on his personal story. I couldn’t even explain what I was feeling. I was so confused yet also felt like I was crazy for feeling anything towards this. I started thinking, is this a coincidence? Maybe their team just coincidentally thought of the same idea and designed something similar to ours two months later??? I had an uncomfortable feeling, but tried to let it go.

But after speaking to our OJTB team, this clearly was not a coincidence. We were baffled yet felt complimented? It showcased various city locations with a Passport/luggage tag design in various of similar colours in shade as well. One of the most peculiar was LA where he used the same colour.

We then decided to email Casetify, and stated our intent and wanted clarification on their end. Of course not getting a response and then having Wesley Ng unfollow me after I posted about this on my social media. This just made everything a bit more uneasy…hope you never have to feel what it’s like getting your idea/design stolen !!

Now there’s other companies on ig and knock off stories in Hong Kong/Toronto selling this too.. WILD.
